Description

Do you think that biology needs better models and better software tools? Are you interested in computational approaches to cancer biology and a direct opportunity to help cancer patients? Do you want to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary team science setting with cancer biologists, surgeons, engineers and software developers. Do you think that as a computational biologist, you should not be the servant, nor the queen ( Sorry Pavel Pevzner!) but a valued peer with significant participation in decision making? If your answer is yes, we might have a great position for you!

Computational Biology Program at Oregon Health and Science University is at an exciting junction. We are leading the computational efforts on multiple large scale cancer biology projects from cancer early detection to late-stage personalized medicine approaches. We also participate in multiple large scale data generation projects and build widely used open-source tools, platforms and pipelines. We are primarily looking for talented individuals who are passionate about cancer biology and want to work in a team science environment. We also highly value software development skills, preferably in an open source setting, demonstrated ability to organize and lead interdisciplinary teams and machine learning and data science experience, preferably on -omic data, pathways and networks, real time collaborative platforms, natural language processing and visualization. Cross training or experience in biology is highly desirable.

Potential projects to participate include: Algorithm development for -omic data analysis, large scale -omic data integration and federation, decision support systems for molecular tumor boards, direct participation in translational cancer biology, natural language processing for extracting pathway and drug information, pathway/network analysis and visualization tools.
