Description

We are looking for somebody to join the group of Prof Julian Gough to work on big data, data science, algorithms, data integration, machine learning and statistical methods applied to protein structure domains (SUPERFAMILY), protein disorder (D2P2), protein function and phenotype (dcGO) and other areas such as genetic variation (FATHMM). This project is to bring together our previous research in these areas with diverse and large biological datasets and to unite it into a coherent system for conducting cutting edge genomic research.

The explosive amount of biological data coming from advances in high-throughput techniques such as DNA sequencing constitutes one of the two most important areas of data science for the next half-century (the other being internet-related). Unlike the more obvious internet-related areas of big data research, there is a lack of highly skilled and motivated computer scientists to work on the important problems. This opportunity to work in the Gough group is a chance to become one of those people.

The successful applicant(s) will be awarded a 3 year Career Development Fellowship/MRC Postdoctoral Training Scheme.

Qualifications

You are highly motivated, have a PhD in a relevant subject, and you have an aptitude for computer science, mathematics and working with data. This role will suit you if you enjoy learning and are comfortable working in an application area that stretches your comfort zone.
