Computational Biology group at the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences, University of Tampere invites applications for Bioinformatics expert position for an initial two-year appointment with possibility for extension. The planned commencement date for the position is January 1, 2018 or as mutually agreed.

Job description

Recruited person will work as a technical support person of bioinformatics core services of the Faculty and interact with the bioscientists who need expert support in bioinformatics. Activities focus on high-throughput and bioimage data analysis that are the focus areas of the Computational Biology group. Computational Biology group is part of the Center of Excellence in Tumour Genetics research and currently consists of 35 members with interdisciplinary and international backgrounds. Main responsibilities of the bioinformatics expert will be:
- Maintenance and implementation of state of the art analysis pipelines for high throughput sequencing and bioimaging data.
- Running of these analysis pipelines for in-house generated datasets.
- Interaction with bioscience researchers as a part of bioinformatics core service of the faculty.
- Contributing to the scientific research projects within the group.

Salary

The salary will be based on the requirement level chart for the other staff of the Finnish Universities. The preliminary requirement level is 7–9. In addition to the basic salary, a supplementary salary component will be paid according to the personal performance.

The total salary will be approximately between 2400–3500 EUR depending on the qualifications of the applicant.

Four-month trial period applies for the appointed person.

Qualifications

- MSc or PhD with technical background (bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, etc) with hands-on experience in biological data analysis
- Programming skills, experience with Unix, and affinity with working with large datasets
- Knowledge and experience in cloud computing and interest in bioimaging instrumentation is a benefit
- Independent working style with a strong focus on (interdisciplinary) collaboration
