The “Genomics of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Disease” Laboratory at the University of Bern has an opportunity for a Bioinformatics Postdoc. Diseases of the heart are the single greatest cause of death worldwide. Future regenerative therapies depend on understanding the molecular pathways underlying the development and differentiation of heart cells. We are excited about the role of lncRNAs in these processes, and harnessing them for future therapies.

The Project: We represent the bioinformatics component of a new, multi-centre collaboration with world-leading experimental groups, to identify lncRNAs mediating cell fate decisions in heart cells. The position is funded for 4 years by a prestigious Swiss National Science Foundation “Sinergia” grant. You will lead the processing, integration and analysis of diverse genomics and NGS data, in order to discover and characterise new disease-causing lncRNAs. You will have considerable scope to lead in the formulation of new ideas and hypotheses, and your results will be critical for subsequent experimental work.

The Group: We are a group of experimental and bioinformatic researchers with a passion for lncRNA research. We are members of the Swiss National Center for Competence in Research (NCCR) “RNA & Disease” (nccr-rna-and-disease.ch), and participate in the GENCODE project (gencodegenes.org). Qualifications

We seek an open, passionate and dynamic colleague who will fit in with our diverse team. You should have experience in Bioinformatics or similar quantitative discipline, having familiarity the following: Unix environment, R, perl/python, analysis of NGS data. Experience and interest in lncRNAs or differentiation/developmental systems would be advantageous. You will be self-motivated, organised and comfortable interacting in diverse research consortia.
