Salary: £30,750 to £37,750 per annum depending on qualifications and experience

Supporting microbial research within the Gut Microbes and Health ISP (GMH-ISP, see www.ifr.ac.uk/ghfs/), this role will involve the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing datasets from microbial-focussed projects, which include but are not limited to bacterial communities constituting the gut microbiome, and host-cell Omics. Key Omics platforms include (meta)genomics and (meta)transcriptomics, and the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a knowledge of the informatics aspects of these fields and techniques.

The post holder will be expected to use a variety of Linux computing platforms as appropriate for the tasks. Familiarity with cloud computing, container technology (e.g. Docker) and HPC would be advantageous, as well as familiarity with standard data analysis tools for reproducible research.

Working closely with the ISP’s Senior Bioinformatician, this post offers the successful candidate an exciting opportunity to apply and develop their knowledge and skills in the context of a range of GMH projects spanning the research activities of the ISP.


Qualifications

EITHER: Degree in an appropriate biological science with a post graduate qualification in computer science or bioinformatics;
OR: Degree in computer science or bioinformatics with postgraduate experience in biological sciences.
