The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) at the University of Luxembourg is seeking an enthusiastic team member for the following position:

Software developer for web-based translational medicine knowledge management and analysis tools (m/f)


• Fixed-term contract for 3 years, 40h/week, extension possible
• Employee status (start date: as soon as possible)

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Luxembourg. LCSB develops and applies systems-level approaches to gain insight into the molecular and cellular mechanisms of human diseases. Experimental and computational approaches are combined to analyse the complexity of biological systems underlying disease pathogenesis. The LCSB is pioneering the way for a predictive, preventive and personalised medicine. LCSB is coordinating the ELIXIR (the European life-sciences Infrastructure for biological Information www.elixir-europe.org) national node of Luxembourg focusing on “Clinical and Translational Medicine Research Informatics”.
We are looking for a software engineer to develop web-based knowledge management tools, implementation of bioinformatics analysis algorithms, GUI design and implementation for ELIXIR project.

Your Role

• Setting up of an electronic data capture system to collect the clinical data and harmonize the retrospective clinical data
• Clinical, omics, imaging and wearable-device data integration
• Develop new web-based tools for reporting the progress and results of research projects
• Develop and deploy scalable data repository solutions
• Work closely with other team members on the design and implementation of data analysis workflows and visualization tools
• Bring new IT/bioinformatics data analysis workflows and pipelines to the community.

Qualifications

Your Profile

• MSc or PhD in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, with an interest in biomedical informatics and translational medicine
• Strong computer programming (Python, Ruby, Java, Groovy, JavaScript, R, HTML / CSS) skills and knowledge of RDBMS (MySQL / PostgreSQL) are a requirement
• Track record in production-level software project including unit testing and using agile software development methodologies
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate clearly the scientific and technical needs and to work within an interdisciplinary setting, communicating with other internal/external partners
• Prior experience dealing with clinical and omics data integration as well as NoSQL database technologies is considered an advantage but NOT mandatory.
