The Vermont Genetics Network (VGN) has developed a new position combining administrative and intellectual oversight of core facilities with an opportunity to conduct independent research in proteomics and proteomics bioinformatics. The rank of the 12 month 1.0 FTE appointment in the Department of Biology, within the College of Arts and Sciences at UVM, is open at Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor or Research Professor and to be determined by the final candidate’s experience and qualifications.

VGN is an NIH-funded biomedical research infrastructure program for the state of Vermont. The lead institution is the University of Vermont (UVM). Faculty from seven liberal arts colleges across Vermont carry out VGN-supported research with their students. VGN has developed three core facilities, the Microarray and Proteomics Facilities, and the Bioinformatics Core. This strong research infrastructure provides enormous resources for faculty at UVM and at VT partner baccalaureate institutions. We are seeking a full-time research faculty member to oversee the three core facilities and to specifically direct the Bioinformatics Core. We are especially interested in building the Proteomics Facility services by focusing on the Bioinformatics of Proteomics.

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in a biological, biochemical or chemical discipline with at least three years of training in proteomics and bioinformatics, preferably at the postdoctoral level. Assisting investigators in publishing their work, and in collecting data for grant proposals, will be essential, and the successful applicant will have demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated track record of publications. There will also be opportunities for independent research in proteomics and the bioinformatics of proteomics. Furthermore, there will be an opportunity to recruit and direct a postdoctoral associate to facilitate this research. Our proteomics core facility has strong mass spectrometry platforms and there is access to important computational capacity.

The position is 1.0 FTE, 12 month term; annual salary will be commensurate with experience; available immediately. Position funding is guaranteed until May 31, 2020, but may be ongoing, dependent upon grant funding. immediately.
