Description

PhD student positions are currently available in Dr. Kang Ning’s laboratory at the College of Life Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China.

The laboratory has its research theme focused on microbial bioinformatics, with special interests in metagenomics, metaproteomics, single-cell genomics, algorithms for microbial bioinformatics, as well as synthetic biology. More details could be found at: www.microbioinformatics.org.

We are looking for PhD candidate and PhD students to join our team for development of computational algorithms for integrating high throughput profiling data (e.g. microbiome data, single-cell genomic data, etc.). The focus of the position will be to develop novel computational models and algorithms for understanding microbial communities’ evolutionary and ecological patterns, with the applications of precision medicine and environmental science as well. The candidate will have the opportunity to perform research in computational biology, and work in a highly interdisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

Successful candidates should hold a MS or BS in Computational Biology/ Bioinformatics/ Computer Science / Mathematics/ Engineering/ Physics or Statistics. The position requires a background in algorithms and statistics, data mining, and machine learning. Candidates with prior experience in the next-generation sequencing data analysis are desirable. Candidates should have good programming skills and experience in Python/C/ C++/ Java and R. The candidate is expected to have outstanding personal initiative and be able to work effectively as part of a team.
