The Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw, invites applications for two NCN-funded postdoctoral positions (Assistant Professor, research staff group) in the NCN OPUS 30 project "CABS-flex RNA: AI-Assisted Multiscale Modeling of RNA Structural Ensembles" (PI: Prof. Sebastian Kmiecik). We seek two researchers with complementary expertise. People of all genders are invited to apply.

Research Fields: Chemical sciences
Researcher Profile: R2
Available positions: 2
Main duties: Research on RNA structural ensembles through automated runs of multiple long-timescale simulations and analysis of their results, or development of computational methods, coarse-grained models, force fields and statistical potentials using data and AI methods. Tasks will be matched to the expertise of the appointed researchers, and the two areas interact within the project. Method validation, presentation of research results, preparation of publications and research documentation, and collaboration with the team. Mentoring and supporting doctoral, undergraduate and master's students. The position will not involve activities covered by child-protection regulations.
Assessment criteria: Quality and significance of publications in structural bioinformatics or molecular modelling, including research on the structure and dynamics of proteins, RNA or their complexes; the applicant's independent and leading contribution to the conception, execution or analysis of research (e.g. first or co-first authorship, or a description of their contribution); experience in biomolecular simulations or computational method development, including AI and data analysis; ability to plan and conduct research independently; fit with project tasks.
Benefits:
- Contract: full-time, fixed-term employment at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw
- Expected start: 1 January 2027 or a mutually agreed date
- Planned appointment: 24 months, with possible extension until the end of the project (31 July 2029), subject to available funding
- Monthly gross salary: PLN 8000–12000. The salary and appointment duration will be agreed with the selected candidate, taking into account their qualifications, the available budget and the project end date.
- Development: Tasks will be matched to the selected researchers' experience and strengths in biomolecular simulations or computational method development. We offer opportunities for professional development, including participation in scientific conferences.
Please note: While receiving salary from this position, the employee may not receive salary under an employment contract from another employer, other remuneration from the direct costs of NCN-funded projects, or pension or equivalent benefits in Poland or abroad.
- a PhD in a relevant natural, computational or technical science by the date of signing the employment contract; the first PhD awarded in the year of employment
or within the 12 years preceding 1 January of that year (subject to permitted career-break extensions); a PhD awarded outside the University of Warsaw, or a
continuous, documented research stay of at least nine months at an institution other than the University of Warsaw and in a country other than the country where
the PhD was awarded.
- experience in structural bioinformatics or molecular modelling of proteins, RNA or their complexes, evidenced by publications;
- ability to write Python scripts, automate calculations, run multiple simulations and analyse their results;
- good command of English and ability to work in a team;
- eligibility under Article 113 of the Polish Law on Higher Education and Science.
- Experience in RNA modelling, knowledge of Fortran, high-performance computing (HPC), coarse-grained methods, machine learning or derivation of statistical potentials is an advantage. Experience in all these additional areas is not required.
Required documents: CV including a publication list and a short description of the applicant’s own contribution to up to three selected papers; a short motivation letter (up to one
page) indicating the project area most closely matching the applicant’s expertise; contact details of two potential referees; statement accepting the University of Warsaw competition rules.
Application Deadline : Please send applications in English or Polish to sekmi@chem.uw.edu.pl, with “OPUS 30 CABS-flex RNA – post-doc” in the subject line, by 14 November 2026.
Applicants with disabilities or specific needs may state any accessibility requirements for the recruitment process.
Selection process : Selected applicants may be invited for an interview, with at least five days’ notice. Results will be communicated by email by 31 December 2026 and published in accordance with UW and NCN rules. If a selected candidate declines the offer, the position may be offered to the next person on the ranked list. The competition is the first stage of the University of Warsaw academic recruitment procedure; a positive result provides the basis for further steps towards employment.
