The Department of Biomedical Data Science (DBDS) at the Stanford University School of
Medicine (SoM) invites applications for an open-rank faculty position at the Assistant, Associate,
or Full Professor level in the University Tenure Line (UTL). We are particularly interested in
candidates who develop and apply novel artificial intelligence (AI) and biomedical data science
methodologies to advance biomedical discovery and improve clinical care.
Stanford Medicine is a recognized leader in biomedical AI, with major institutional investments
to integrate AI efforts across its clinical care, research, and education missions. Building on this
momentum, DBDS seeks to recruit faculty who not only apply AI to important biomedical
problems but also innovate on the underlying methods that drive the field forward. Areas of
interest include large-scale biomedical data science and biostatistical analysis of multimodal
patient research data, including clinical records, imaging, genomics, pathology, and physiologic
signals; trustworthy, reproducible, explainable, and sustainable AI; health data cybersecurity and
privacy; prospective trials and real-world evaluation of AI systems; human–AI interaction and
human–computer teaming; AI-enabled biosensors for continuous health monitoring; world
models, simulations, and digital twins; lab-in-the-loop approaches that connect computational
models with iterative experimentation; AI for drug design, therapeutic development, and
scientific discovery; and generative AI and synthetic data for simulation, privacy preservation,
model development, and evaluation.
DBDS offers a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, with strong connections
across Stanford University and its affiliated research institutes and health systems. Faculty
recruited through this search will join a vibrant intellectual community and are expected to
contribute to research, education, and, where applicable, clinical activities.
Interested candidates should submit the following materials to:

1. A detailed letter describing research and teaching interests and, if applicable, clinical specialty,
2. A curriculum vitae,
3. Three names of referees for letters of recommendation.
The university’s central functions of research and education depend on freedom of thought, and
expression. The Department of Biomedical Data Science, School of Medicine, and Stanford
University value faculty who will help foster an open and respectful academic environment for
colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and perspectives.
Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief
discussion about how their work and experience will further these values.
This role is open to candidates from multiple disciplines and specialties. The pay offered to the
selected candidate will be based on their field or discipline. The expected base pay range for
likely disciplines are listed below. Interested candidates whose discipline is not listed may
contact the hiring department for the salary range specific to their discipline/specialty
PhD, Data Science or related field
Assistant: $228k – $257k
Associate: $274k – $301k
Professor: $325k – $351k
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not
include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from
participation in departmental incentive compensation programs. For more information about
compensation and our wide-range of benefits, including housing assistance, please contact the
hiring department.
Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the
university reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire. The pay offered to the selected
candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and
qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or
discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
Stanford is an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified
applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex,
sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any
other characteristic protected by law. Stanford welcomes applications from all who would bring

The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment
to research and teaching. Faculty line and rank will be determined by qualifications and
experience. The successful candidate must have a PhD with substantial expertise related to
biomedical data science and AI. They will be expected to establish or lead an independent
research program that advances AI methodology and its application to biomedical and clinical
sciences.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach and mentor students, postdoctoral fellows,
and trainees, and to participate in the broader educational mission of the department. Candidates
should demonstrate the potential to achieve, or have a demonstrated record of, excellence in
rigorous and impactful research.
