The Computation and Informatics in Biology and Medicine (CIBM) Training Program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has postdoctoral traineeship openings for researchers wishing to solve biomedical problems requiring strengths in both computational and biomedical sciences (www.cibm.wisc.edu). The focus of the CIBM Program encompasses translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, and health and clinical informatics. In addition, the CIBM Program is recruiting trainees for postdoctoral training in environmental exposures informatics. The CIBM postdoctoral traineeships, funded by the NLM Grant 5T15LM007359, are designed for cross-disciplinary training. The 54 CIBM faculty span 14 diﬀerent departments and five colleges at UW-Madison and include multiple faculty at the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (located about 100 miles north of Madison).
The biomedical sciences are being radically transformed by advances in our ability to monitor, record, store, integrate and analyze information characterizing human biology and health a scales that range from individual molecules to large populations of subjects. This wealth of information has the potential to substantially advance both our understanding of human biology and our ability to improve human health through smarter methods for risk assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment planning. The mission of the Computation and Informatics in Biology and Medicine Training Program is to educate and mentor the next generation of leaders in biomedical informatics research. Our program is designed to equip and mentor pre- and postdoctoral trainees to develop novel, state-of-the-art computational methods for advancing biomedicine.
The CIBM training program is a partnership between the University of Wisconsin (UW) and the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MCRI). The focus of our program encompasses translational bioinformatics, clinical research informatics, and health/clinical informatics. The organizations involved in CIBM are exceptionally strong. UW has a total externally funded research portfolio of nearly $1.3B/year and is a leading research university. A good fraction of this research is in the biomedical sciences and related areas.
