The newly founded Institute of Experimental Medicine and Systems Biology at the University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Germany, is looking for a highly motivated and team oriented scientist with biocomputational experience at the level of a Senior Postdoc or Group Leader Computational Biology.

The position is open starting as soon as possible. The compensation for the senior postdoctoral position can be funded at TVL13 pay-scale, the group leader position at TVL15 pay-scale for 100% and three years with option of extension. The candidate will work on own projects and also contribute to ongoing projects in the lab aimed to gain new insights in mechanism fibrotic disease with a major focus on kidney and cardiovascular disease. The scientist will report directly to the Head of the Institute. The candidate will perform a project at the forefront of single cell genomic and multiomic research including single cell and single nuclear RNA and snATAC-seq, spatial transcriptomics in human tissue specimen with the aim to discover new therapeutic targets and biomarkers and develop novel computational tools for data analysis and integration. The scientist will work in a highly collaborative international environment in close collaboration with the Costa-lab (Institute for Computational Genomics, RWTH, www.costalab.org), the Saez-Lab (Insitute of Computational Biology, University of Heidelberg, www.saezlab.org) and the Schneider-Lab (Department of Cell-Biology, RWTH, www.schneiderlab.org).

For the group leader position the candidate will be responsible to develop and organize a biocomputational group with 6-10 bioinformaticians (PostDoc or PhD level). The candidate will have to develop suitable novel computational tools for data analysis and integration of various omics data. The scientist will be involved in all ongoing projects of the Kramann laboratory and train all PhD students and Postdocs in biocomputational biology. Therefore, excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills are absolutely vital.


Qualifications

Major requirements and responsibilities:

PhD in computational biomedicine or bioinformatics
Excellent teamwork skills and interests in international collaborations
Experience with single cell RNA-seq data analysis
Excellent interpersonal skills, outstanding written and oral communication skills and organizational skills
Good publication track-record
Proven ability in independent thinking and programming
Must be able to handle a variety of computational tasks and to adapt to a highly dynamic environment.
Writing of successful R&D proposal for research funding
Coach and mentor computational PhD students and postdocs and building a strong computational team (taskforce leader)
