The PlantMed group at the University of the Balearic Islands seeks to hire a highly motivated and enthusiastic Bioinformatics specialist for a project aiming to explore Rubisco traits across photosynthetic organisms. The selected candidate will work on a large scale data base including genetic, biochemical, physiological and geological information to the objective of mapping Rubisco variation and unraveling the causes of such variation.
Duties:
- Large scale genetic data processing and analysis to support biochemical and physiological data.
- Participating in management and data-analysis of big data bases.
- Support research projects by preparing and delivering analyses in a timely fashion.
- Present and publish results at international conferences and peer reviewer journals
- The candidate is expected to have Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in statistical genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, but also biology/biochemistry/biotechnology with strong computational skills. PhD is an asset.
- Essential skills include knowledge of applied statistics, experience with structural bioinformatics, molecular phylogeny, proteomic data, statistical programming in R and knowledge of commonly used statistical genetics tools.
- Experience of handling, visualisation and analysis of large-scale multi-dimensional biological data sets.
- Knowledge of basic plant physiology and photosynthesis is valued.
- Proactive, solution-seeking and responsible way of working independently and as part of a larger team, keeping deadlines under pressure.
- Proficiency in oral and written English, our team is international.
