Description

A Systems Immunologist (computational biologist/bioinformatician) is sought to assist the Vignali Lab (Vignali-lab.com) in the analyses and management of multi-omics datasets (with emphasis on single cell and bulk RNAseq, ATACseq and ChIPseq data) relevant to the study of immune cells in mouse and human cancer and autoimmune microenvironments. This position will incorporate a wide range of skills and activities including data analysis, data management, algorithm and pipeline development, and training others in basic bioinformatics. The successful applicant will need to split their time between the PI’s two labs at the University main campus in Oakland, and at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Shadyside, Pittsburgh. The PI’s lab investigates novel therapeutic cancer immunotherapy targets (inhibitory pathways and cell types). This individual will work in close collaboration with experimental scientists in both labs to assist their high throughput NGS project design, data analysis and data presentation. The applicant is also expected to train lab members in basic computational biology/bioinformatics data analysis and interpretation. They may also lead computation research projects involving methods development, novel algorithm development and/or or high-level data analysis of lab-generated and publicly available datasets.

Qualifications

Requirements: MS or PhD in computational biology or a track record of publications in a related field. The successful candidate will have expertise in multiple programming languages (with emphasis on R and/or Python), experience with high-performance computing, evidence of successful translation of data into publications, a strong understanding of basic and translational cancer immunology, and experience with transcriptomic analysis of immune genes and pathways. Experience with supervision/training of graduate students, post-docs and technical staff is also important. Prior experience with collaborations involving clinical investigators, clinical coordinators, physician-scientists and/or surgeons would be desirable.
