Job Summary

Two NIH funded post-doctoral positions are available in Dr. Zechen Chong's Laboratory be (sites.google.com/view/chonglab ) in the Informatics Institute, at the University of Alabama – Birmingham. We are seeking passionate and motivated Bioinformatics geeks to join the team. The positions are for 2-3 years with possible extension. Project will depend on the interests and abilities of the applicant. Our projects mainly fall into two categories: one is the development of efficient algorithms/tools for analyzing different types of sequencing data from diverse platforms; the other is the application of the tools to discover novel biological insights.

The candidate will have opportunities to write manuscripts, grants, mentor students, and present key findings from the project at national and international conferences. Competitive postdoc awards are available including internships, grant incentives, funds to enhance education and collaboration outside UAB, and teaching opportunities at local universities. There is also a Postdoc Research Day with monetary awards.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

Ph.D. in genomics, bioinformatics, computer science, physics, mathematics, genetics, etc. with a general background in computational biology.

Strong skills in algorithm design and data analysis, experience in next-generation and/or third-generation sequencing data is a plus.

Demonstrated related research achievements.
