Description

The Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics (CGB) at Universidad Mayor seeks applicants for a position at the Assistant/Associate level with recognized expertise in bioinformatics and with a main focus in genomics. Research topics of interest are: genome structure and evolution, comparative and population genomics, modelling and reconstruction of biological networks, analysis of high throughput omic data, development of algorithms for data mining, databases and statistics, among others. Applicants are expected to establish an independent research team supported by extramural funding, complementing existing strengths in the areas of computational biology, neuroscience, evolutionary, microbial and plant genomics.

Qualifications

The candidate should have teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels and is expected to actively contribute to the Doctorate program in Integrative Genomics through mentoring graduate students, as well through teaching courses on “bioinformatics”, “systems biology”, and related areas of genomics. In order to strengthen the link between the research activities of our Center and the undergraduate programs of Universidad Mayor, the candidate should also participate in courses and mentoring at the undergraduate level. The candidate is expected to establish collaborative networks with other members of the Center, as well as with members of other research Centers at Universidad Mayor, members of national and international institutions, and to participate in educational and outreach programs of societal impact.
Applicants to the assistant professorship level should hold a Doctorate degree in a relevant area for the position (bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, among others), should have post-doctoral experience, and an exceptional potential for independent and collaborative research and teaching. Secured funding and experience supervising undergraduate or graduate students are a plus.
Applicants to the associate professorship level should hold a Doctorate degree in a relevant area for the position (bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, among others), post-doctoral experience, an outstanding record of publications demonstrating leadership through corresponding authorship, should have participated as responsible/principal researcher of extramural grants, and have experience in training and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.
Successful applicants are expected to start no later than March 2020. Candidates do not need to speak Spanish at the time of the application, however they are expected to learn the language within a year of appointment in order to fulfill their teaching duties.

4. Teaching statement indicating teaching experience and how your incorporation will help fostering undergraduate and graduate programs in our Institution.
5. A summary of your five most important publications, highlighting their contribution to science.
