Description

Our team is looking for a post-doctoral researcher (1 year contract with yearly prolongation up to 3 years) to work on the development of machine learning approaches to elucidate biological processes affecting clinical outcome of cancer patients. This challenging project, requiring solid analytical and computer science skills, has for purpose to improve diagnosis in cancer patients and propose novel treatment avenues. It has a high potential for patenting and transfer to clinics.

Your major objectives will be to formalize the biological prior information as the cost function of the LASSO regression model or as a graph convolutional neural network, design and implement a multi-tasking training algorithm, develop a strategy to reduce execution time, and finally create an online portal with visualization of your results accessible to biologists and clinicians. The results of your work will be experimentally validated in the cell line models.

To work on this project, you will join the internationally-renowned department of computer science of ETH Zürich. You will work in a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art computational infrastructure. This project will provide you with unique opportunities to develop a strong interdisciplinary portfolio in both machine learning and computational biology.

A competitive salary will be offered as well as other attractive working conditions: www.ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zurich/working-teaching-and-research/welcome-center/employment-contract-and-salary/salary.html. Evaluation of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the opening is filled.

To meet the requirements you should hold a PhD degree in computer science/machine learning; if you are coming for a different background, you should show a proven record of developing machine learning methods.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with excellent programming skills (C++/Python/MatLab), proficiency in English and strong interest in biomedical applications. Desired criteria include experience in bioinformatics analysis (in R/MatLab) and basic knowledge of molecular biology and cancer fields.Desired criteria include experience in bioinformatics analysis (in R/MatLab) and basic knowledge of molecular biology and cancer fields.
