Description

We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of disease modelling with focus on phase transitions between phenotypes. The professorship will be located at the Joint Research Center for Computational Biomedicine (JRC).

The candidate is expected to have a visible research agenda and outstanding expertise in the development and establishment of “phase transition” models in systems medicine. The focus should be on the analysis and modelling of mechanisms of disease progression. The models concerned should reflect a differentiated mathematical representation of the phase progression (e.g. progress, chronification or malignant transformation) of the respective diseases.

Future cooperation in the form of interdisciplinary and scientific cooperation with the institutes of the Medical Faculty and the clinics of the University Hospital RWTH Aachen is as important as cooperation with the Helmholtz Institute for Biomedical Engineering and the engineering and scientific disciplines of RWTH Aachen University. In addition, collaboration in the research foci of the faculty and the associated research networks (e.g. SFB TRR 57, SFB TRR 219, IRTG 2150, GRK 2375, GRK 2416, PAK 961, JARA, IZKF AACHEN) as well as collaboration in the further development of the JRC and in interdisciplinary research clusters in the computational sciences (e.g. CSDS) are part of the requirements. Dedicated cooperation in the medical student’s curriculum of the Medical Faculty (“Modellstudiengang Medizin Aachen”), in the master program “Biomedical Engineering” and future courses in this field is also expected.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching and a teaching portfolio.
